Back in 1986 when I was nine, my mom gave me a wooden Christmas ornament that she handpainted to look like a painter’s palette. In addition to my early ambition to be an artist, I went through a number of other career options-including high school band director, oldies radio disc jockey and IT recruiter-before settling on marketing communications, which continues to be my “real” job today.
