Ask Sara - Soft Flex Extreme Flex Beading Wire

Question: I see that you have two different types of Extreme wire in silver, what is the difference?

Answer: Soft Flex Extreme Wire (product code EXT) is the world's first eco-friendly beading wire. This beading wire is free of heavy metals, using an alloy base instead of our typical stainless steel. It comes in 3 radiant colors: 925 sterling silver, 24k gold and champagne. We consider it our first "green" beading wire because there is less pollution and waste created during the manufacturing process. Learn more about our efforts to go green.

We also carry a version that uses a steel core (product code SFX). This version is not in the eco-friendly line but does fair well as it is more kink-resistant. It is only available in bright silver.

If you want the eco-friendly version, keep an eye out for the "green product" logo in the picture and on the spool, as shown in the photo above.

In both products, the core is plated and then coated in nylon. The nylon coating protects the wire from tarnishing and make it hypo-allergenic. These bright metallic colors are wonderful for free floating necklaces as well as add shimmer and shine when strung through clear, translucent beads. All of our beading wire, in any brand, can be knotted.
