Ask Sara - How do I temper craft wire?

Question: How do I temper craft wire?

Answer: Work hardening the wire (or tempering) is accomplished by pounding the wire with a nylon tipped hammer or running the wire through a pair of nylon jaw pliers. Basically, by working the wire, the molecular structure tightens and the wire becomes more and more stiff. Using nylon is good because it has bounce to it and won't mar or chip the wire.
