Starting fresh
As most of you know, Josh and I have been hard at work on our new home. We finally moved last weekend. Life threw me a curve ball and my computer crashed. This was good and bad. Since I had already planned to not work, it was helpful to have it crash over a long weekend. It was bad because I would have preferred that it just not crash at all. Unfortunately, all of my data was wiped clean on my computer. I often work using google docs, gmail, flickr etc so that I can save my files off of my computer just for this reason. I did lose a few choice items that I am a little sad about but can certainly live without. So it seems that I am not only starting fresh in our new home, I'm also starting fresh on my old computer. I have to say, it feels wonderful. There is something about a clean start that is refreshing. I dropped off at least 6 loads at goodwill while packing up our town home. I guess in some ways having my computer wiped clean is sort of like removing more junk from my life. Most of what was saved was not really necessary. My computer is operating at its optimum speed now. So, dear reader, what can you get rid of in your life to refresh? You don't have to wait for a big move or a computer crash to simplify. You can clean out that cabinet, closet, garage or inbox today. Maybe it is your bead stash or craft table that needs a makeover? Take it from me, it will feel good.

Spotlight on...Bead Seller Bead Boutique
Our featured bead store for this month is Bead Boutique
"It all started when...."
Ha! Ha! Don't we all have THAT story to tell? And it's the same for Bead Boutique, the friendliest bead shop in Kansas City. Founded in 2003 and purchased on a whim in 2006 by the current owner, Bead Boutique is known first and foremost for its friendly staff. Yes, we all love beads to excess. Yes, we are all capable and, sometimes, extraordinary artists. Yes, we have a fantastical variety of beads and findings. Yes, we offer fun and educational classes. But our main mission is to provide a welcoming environment that appreciates and supports the creativity residing in everyone.

Halloween Treat - Part One by Jamie Hogsett
No tricks here! Between now and the end of October, I'll be posting four fun Halloween projects. These earrings would be a great addition to a vampire costume, or you could save them to wear for the premier of next season's True Blood, but, unfortunately, you'll have to wait until next summer for that...
Peruvian ceramic bats are wire-wrapped with Orange 20-gauge Craft Wire and lampworked ovals with black and silver striped cores from Shipwreck Beads. The little bats almost look like they're parachuting from the sterling silver ear wires. I think they're pretty cute, even with their red eyes and fangs!
Guest blogger J amie Hogsett is the Education Coordinator for Soft Flex Company. Contact her at Jamie@SoftFlexCompany.com.

Our featured books this month are
The DIY Bride and The DIY Bride Crafty Countdown by Khris Cochran
The DIY Bride and The DIY Bride Crafty Countdown by Khris Cochran
I recently got engaged and am hoping to pull off a backyard wedding in October 2011. I'll definitely be using The DIY Bride and The DIY Bride Crafty Countdown by Khris Cochran for inspiration. Each book contains 40 fun projects for your ultimate one-of-a-kind wedding. From save-the-dates, invitations and thank you notes to jewelry, accessories and wedding favors, there are so many neat details that you can create yourself to make a wedding really special. I am a firm believer that events, celebrations and holidays aren't just about the actual day. All the days that lead up to the event are meaningful and important too. The planning and creating part is my favorite! These books are plum full of fabulous ideas to get the ball rolling.

Abacus Bracelet by Jamie Hogsett
New beads from Raven's Journey and The Beadin' Path, purchased this past weekend at the Denver Bead Renaissance show, are perfect for this week's bracelet. For some reason, the image of an abacus popped into my head when I was at my beading table, so this is my attempt at a wearable abacus.
The beads don't really move around as they would on a working abacus, but that's okay with me. The Czech glass 8x6mm rondelles and the vintage Lucite 8mm and 10mm rounds tap against each other to make the great clinking sound that's always been my favorite part of an abacus. Green Emerald Soft Flex .019 diameter beading wire is the perfect color to bring the different blues and greens of the beads together. The three strands are separated by five sterling silver 3-hole spacer bars and finished with a sterling silver 3-strand slide clasp. I haven't made a big, chunky cuff in awhile, and I'm loving the feel of it on my wrist.

Recycle your leftover plastic spools
Just a quick reminder, recycle your beading wire spools. If you flip them over, you'll see the little recycle logo. They can go right into your own recycling bin at home.
We have several cute and easy projects for using leftover bits of beading wire. Here are a few of my favorites!

Soft Flex Beading Wire mentioned on the Home Shopping Network
We had our first mention on the Home Shopping Network. The host was selling a gorgeous necklace strung on our beading wire. A few weeks ago, I wrote a post about HSN preferring Soft Flex Beading Wire over other brands on the market. Since April, they have been asking their vendors to use our product for all strung designs. Now, that we are in the full swing of things, our wire will start to be mentioned by the hosts and in the online description as one of many reasons to buy the design. For instance, in the description of this design, you'll find that they say, "This piece is strung with Soft Flex—a flexible beading wire that helps improve strength, durability and longevity of the jewelry design." If you click on the video, about half way through the host talks about Soft Flex Beading Wire in detail. So neat!!! Again, I think it says a lot about them as a company that they care about every piece and part of the finished products that they sell. But, it also says a lot about our product in that after careful analysis, they chose our beading wire over all others. Yay!
