Beadwork Inspired by Art: Impressionist Jewelry and Accessories: by Jean Campbell and Judith Durant is a beautiful work of art all in itself. What a neat idea? “Inspired by the great masterpieces of fine artists – and working with a vast array of beads and numerous techniques from stringing to weaving – beadworkers can produce their own works of art.” Jean and Judith constructed 12 designs that were influenced by their favorite impressionist masterpieces. “Impressionism is the name given to an art movement that began in Paris in the 1860s. Paintings in this style are known for their loose strokes of color, which are applied side by side. The brushstrokes-short, choppy, broad, or sometimes a series of dots-created and ‘impression’ and left the color mixing to the eye of the beholder.” This book is absolutely marvelous.

From the back cover: “You’ll find a photograph of the piece of art that inspired each project and detailed step-by-step instructions and illustrations for beading it, too. Make all twelve, and soon you’ll be designing your own works of art!”

Works of art include paintings by, but are not limited to:
  • Vincent Van Gogh
  • Edgar Degas
  • Edouard Manet
  • Paul Gauguin
  • Pierre Auguste Renoir
